Last Rites for Vetern Music Instructor To Be Conducted At McFarland’s At 2 P. M.

Funeral services for Prof. Henry E. B. Coursen, 83, well known music teacher, who died at his home, 272 Washington N.W. Monday, will be conducted at McMarland & Sun’s funeral home Tthursday at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. F. P. reinhold with interment in Iowa. Friends may call at the funeral home any time and are requested to omit flowers.

Professor Coursen was born at Columbia Cross Roads, Pa., Nov 15th 1850. He came to Warren later and entered Dana’s Musical Institute from which he gradulated in 1873. In September 1876, he married Ida May Swearingen of Albion Iowa, where he taught music in the seminary there for several year, later returning to Warren as director of Music in the public schools, succeding Prof. Phillips. He was at this time also director of the chior in the First Presbyterian church.

For more than a quarter of a century he taught music privately and engaged in piano tuning, for which he was well known. He will be long remembered for his friendly disposition and his love of books and music.

Surviving are his two daughters, Mrs. Mignon Lundy of Vermont and Miss Camille E. Coursen of this city. One granchild, Miss Margaret Lundy and also a sister Mrs. Emma Compton of Millerton, Pa.

FUNERALS

Funeral services or Henry E. B. Coursen were held from the McFarland & Son Funeral home, Thursday afternoon at 2, and were largely attended by friends and associates. Rev. F. P. Reinhold, D.D., was in charge. Appropriate selections were sung by the former high school quartet including Robert Middlestead, Kenneth Jones, George Gentithes and Orville Wilson. The body was shipped by express to Iowa for burial.

Married Allice Mary (Mary Allice?) Pinkerton of Bazetta OH (b. July 1874) bet. June 1899 and July 1900. She died bet. 1910 and 1920 (possibly before 1912, prompting the family’s move to the Packard Appartments).
